RAKS Optimizes Handset Performance with Ethertronics
New Multimedia Mobile Phones Put Premium on Design Flexibility & Real-World, End-User Performance

Ethertronics, the leading developer and manufacturer of high performance internal/embedded antennas for wireless devices, announced today that RAKS has selected their patented Isolated Magnetic Dipole™ (IMD) internal antennas for integration into a new line of multimedia mobile phones. RAKS is a leading communications provider to the European wireless market. Their new phones feature built-in digital cameras and the latest multimedia features that are increasingly catching the eyes of consumers around the world.

For RAKS the antenna vendor decision was a critical part of the product development equation. Their objective was to optimize performance, but critical design elements posed serious threats to the RF (radio-frequency) performance. The devices are multi-band and feature a large, color screen. The mechanical design required that the digital camera actually go through the middle of the antenna structure, making the overall design extremely complex. Ethertronics' Isolated Magnetic Dipole™ (IMD) antennas were an excellent fit based on their high isolation, design flexibility and advanced multi-band capabilities.

Praised by phone manufacturers around the world, Ethertronics' IMD antennas optimize performance - especially in the real-world usage situations. Test results of the IMD antennas against the head consistently show significantly higher performance than other technologies such as PIFA and ceramic. These results help maximize handset coverage, minimize battery consumption and reduce SAR (specific absorption rates), helping mobile phone OEM's significantly reduce their time to market.

"We are very excited to be working with RAKS on the development of these breakthrough new devices," commented Mike Isgrig, vice president of marketing & North American sales at Ethertronics. "Our IMD antennas are a natural fit for RAKS. They have a very advanced line of multi-band phones with complicated circuitry close to the antenna and they put a premium on real-world performance. Our IMD technology continues to demonstrate a clear, measurable advantage over more traditional antenna technologies - especially when used against the head."
