Ethertronics’ IMD™ Technology Chosen for Integration in Casio’s GPR-100 Speedometer Watch
Isolated Magnetic Dipole Antenna Used in the Development of the World’s Smallest GPS Applied Equipment
Ethertronics, the internal (embedded) antenna technology leader for wireless devices, today announced that it has been chosen by Casio Computer Co., Ltd., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of consumer electronics and business equipments solutions, to develop a high sensitivity GPS reception antennafor the world’s smallest GPS applied device – a GPS enabled wrist watch.

"We selected Ethertronics for the GPR-100 because their Isolated Magnetic Dipole technology offered the design flexibility, precision and reception needed for this very intricate watch design,” said E. Nakajima of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. “Ethertronics worked closely with our team to develop and perfect the antenna design which met our specifications and enabled Casio to offer this unique watch with exacting standards.”

Targeting runners, the GPR-100 is a light-weight wrist watch that has the ability to deliver distance and speed (pace) in real-time using its GPS reception antenna. The watch utilizes EWLP (embedded wafer level package) technology, which makes possible performance improvements and a reduction in size, thickness, and weight of electronic devices. The GPR-100 watch displays distance traveled, speed (pace) and measures/calculates pre-set goals (set by the user) with real-time data collected from the GPS antenna.

“Being chosen by an industry pioneer like Casio is a true testament to our leadership position as an embedded antenna innovator,” said Chris Dorny, VP Product Management at Ethertronics. “Despite inherent constraints within the Casio GPR-100 watch, Ethertronics was able to meet the receive sensitivity and size specifications required to integrate a high performance antenna into the watch design.”

Ethertronics’ Isolated Magnetic Dipole™ (IMD) technology delivers on the key needs of today’s wireless devices. It has been designed to confine the current flow on the antenna element and optimize the isolation to deliver higher performance in a small form factor with minimal SAR emissions.
